Advice, Planning and Strategy

The experience within Building Value is tailor-made for helping corporate entities grow and develop; and to deal with issues as and when they arise.

For many years, Chairman Tony Williams was an investment analyst specialising in the building materials, real estate, construction and support services sectors with UBS (aka Phillips & Drew), Morgan Stanley and ABN AMRO. During this time he was highly ranked in both the UK and US, writing research on a range of international companies. Flotations, mergers and acquisitions plus treasury and share related issues were also a large part of this work and details are listed elsewhere on this website (see Corporate Finance plus Mergers & Acquisitions).

In 1992-96, in a sabbatical from investment banking, Tony was Director of Corporate Planning with Tarmac plc which was the UK’s number one in quarry products, building materials, construction and housebuilding; plus it had a substantial business in the US. However, the Group was impacted severely by the recession of the early 1990s and, to ensure its survival, Tarmac underwent extensive rationalisation and financial reconstruction. The process culminated in the £300 million asset swap (housing for quarry products-construction-and-cash) with George Wimpey (which later merged with Taylor Woodrow). Not surprisingly, Tony says he learned more during this four year stint than at any other time in his career.

In the late 1990s, Tony was a Director of ING Barings in Global Corporate Finance. Once again, he specialised in building materials, real estate, construction and support services (full details are shown in Mergers & Acquisitions). Thereafter, he headed up a “Basic Industries” product offering at ABN AMRO which included the old favourites (as above) plus chemicals, mining, minerals and paper.

Today, in addition to his role at Building Value, Tony holds a number of Non Executive Directorships and advisory positions (see Non Executive Director).
